Capturing images— with the Lens: What I Love, Hate, Hope, Wish, and Envision for Photography, i t’s a way of freezing emotions, bottling light, and telling stories too complex for words. The love I have for this art form runs deep, rooted in the magic that happens when a split second is immortalized with purpose.
What I Love
I love how photography makes us stop. In a fast-paced world, it gives us pause. A beautiful frame reminds us to look again, closer. It makes us see color, contrast, humanity, nature—details we might otherwise miss. I love how photography can connect people across time and place, culture and language. A photo taken in silence can speak volumes. It’s raw. It’s intimate. It’s personal.
The technical side of photography is equally thrilling. The interplay between light and shadow, aperture and depth, ISO and grain—each choice feels like part of a ritual that transforms the mundane into art. I love how a single lens can alter the narrative, and how editing can turn an already powerful image into something truly transcendent.
What I Hate
I hate that photography is sometimes treated as disposable. In the age of social media, some people take 100 photos and appreciate none. We snap endlessly, but forget to feel what we’re capturing. The democratization of cameras has made photography accessible—but it’s also blurred the lines between image-making and intention.
I hate how artists are undervalued. Too often, great photographers are asked to work for exposure or discounted rates, as if the years spent honing their craft were meaningless.
I hate the perfection myth: that every image must be sharp, polished, and Instagram-ready. Real moments are messy, and sometimes the imperfect shot is the one that tells the truest story.
What I Hope
I hope photography continues to evolve as an art form, embracing both analog nostalgia and digital innovation. I hope young photographers resist trends long enough to find their authentic voice. I hope the world begins to value powerful imagery again—not just in magazines or campaigns, but in everyday life.
I hope photographers see their work as more than just content. I hope we recognize the impact a single image can have in shifting hearts, changing minds, and opening eyes.
What I Wish
I wish more people would print their photos. There’s something sacred about holding a memory in your hand—feeling the texture, seeing it displayed in your home. Pixels on a screen will never carry the same emotional weight as a framed print passed down through generations.
I wish more photographers told stories. A good photo is more than a pretty picture—it’s a question, a statement, a whisper, or a scream.
What I Envision
I envision a photography community that uplifts, collaborates, and educates. I see a future where AI enhances—not replaces—human creativity. Where storytelling through photography is preserved as both a craft and a calling. Where truth is still told through the lens, even in a world of filters.
Because when you pick up a camera, you aren’t just capturing light—you’re shaping legacy.
