When i lived in NYC as a Photographer, the 4th of July has always been one of my favorite days to shoot — and 2025 was no exception. I spent the holiday in New York City, and let me tell you, this year brought an unforgettable mix of energy, color, and culture that made it a dream for anyone behind the lens.
🎆 The Fireworks Were Next-Level
If you’ve ever seen the Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks in NYC, you know how massive it is. But this year? They really went all out — over 80,000 fireworks shells launched from four barges on the Lower East River, plus stunning projection mapping on the Brooklyn Bridge. I set up early to grab a spot with a perfect view and used a tripod and long exposure to capture the explosions lighting up the skyline.
I remember thinking, “This is what every photographer waits for — that perfect mix of chaos and beauty.”
✊🏼 Documenting More Than Just Lights
Beyond the fireworks, there was another kind of energy in the city. I passed by the protest near Trump Tower, where demonstrators were rallying against the controversial “Big Beautiful Bill.” As someone who uses photography to tell stories, I couldn’t ignore it. I captured a few powerful moments — people holding signs, chanting, standing up for what they believe in. It reminded me that the 4th of July is about freedom in every form, and sometimes that includes the freedom to speak out.
🌭 Culture, Community, and Coney Island
Of course, it wouldn’t be the 4th without stopping by Coney Island to catch part of Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest. It’s wild, it’s weird, and it’s 100% American. From the cheering crowds to the quirky competitors, I was able to snap some fun candid moments full of laughter and community spirit.
☀️ The Weather Was on Our Side
One of the best parts of this year’s celebration? The weather was perfect. Low 80s, low humidity — ideal for both enjoying the day and making sure my gear didn’t overheat. A lot of people took advantage of the sunny skies and set up BBQs at Orchard Beach, which gave me a chance to get some beautiful, natural lifestyle shots of families and friends just enjoying life.
🚇 Navigating NYC with a Camera
Getting around the city was easier than expected, thanks to extra subway service. I had to plan my route a bit since some stations like Clark Street were temporarily bypassed due to crowd control, but honestly, the flow of the city felt smooth for such a huge event.
💡 What I Learned
As a photographer, this 4th of July was a reminder of why I love doing what I do. From dramatic skyline shots to raw human moments — New York gave me stories worth telling through my lens.
So, if you’re thinking about hiring a photographer for your next event or holiday moment, or just want to see the city through my eyes, I’d love to work with you. Let’s create something worth remembering.
